GottaGo is really worth a note! It is the first iPhone native app for public transportation in Switzerland. First it asks you for the start location and destination. It then gives you info about the commuter trains in the next 10 to 30 minutes which you thek can take. GottaGo incorporates the CoreLocation feature to find out your current location and shows you the nearest train stations. Fantastic!!

You cam download this application in the App Store or via iTunes.

IEEE-1394 (Firewire) S1600 and S3200 approved

The IEEE-1394 protocol better known as Firewire or i.Link gets an update. The S1600 and S3200 specifications are now approved by the, you know, IEEE. The two specs are the logical successors of the currently used S400 and S800 specs (Firewire 400 and 800). The new specs allow speeds of up to 3.2Gbps (about 400MB per second).

The new specs will become available in October this year. A little earlier than the new USB 3.0 spec (you can read more about it here).

Rulers for everyone

Omnidea put up a new neat little app called Rulers. An extremely helpful application for graphic and web designers. And the best it’s free.

Shortly after you start Rulers the first time, a horizontal and vertical ruler comes up as an overlay on your desktop together with a little HUD and the current cursor turns into a hair cross. The informations update as you move the hair cross around your desktop. In the app’s preferences you can change options like rulerbackground color, opacity of the rulers and so on.

The only downside here is the hair cross. As it changes the pointer permanently as long as the app is running, I need to get used to it.

This utility is available for Windows and Macintosh.

The launch of the iPhone 3G is imminent. In the US and A we already know there they lining up since last friday or so. There we have it. Today Apple officially announced the next iPhone generation with 3G UMTS/HSDPA and GPS (A-GPS) support. This new version comes with a glossy black back plate, the same 3.5 inch multi-touch screen, a headphone jack mounted flush with the enclosure. The new iPhone comes in 8GB and 16GB flavors with the latter one in a special white backplate edition.

The iPhone 3G will cost you either 199$ for the 8GB model, or 299$ for the 16GB model. It will be available to 70 countries around the world in the next serveral months.

Ghost In The Shell returns (again)

According to a post from TokyoGraph, Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 released original Ghost In The Shell is coming back to theaters, this time in totally digitized picture format and with updated 6.1 surround sound. Seems the plot hasn’t changed at all.

The flick is coming to theaters on July 12th, in Japan, under the title Ghost In The Shell 2.0.

Apple already preparing Mac OS X 10.5.4?

TUAW got a note, that Apple is preparing a system update for Mac OS X, namely 10.5.4. Incorporating in this update are changes to the .Mac services and integration for new hardware. What could that mean? The update is sayed to be released on June 12th.
